BREAKING NEWS: BARAHONA.- Under the request of the students, teachers and of the community of the municipality of Palo Alto, a high school will be constructed there, according to the informations of the province’s governor, Eddy Mateo Vásquez.

He said that the execution of this work was accorded during a meeting in this locality, in which participated a committee of the Education Ministry, headed by Francisco González, in charge of the school buildings.

BREAKING NEWS BARAHONA.- The United Nations Population Fund make a donation of to tables to the regional and university hospital Jaime Mota in Barahona. They will be used in the childbirth room of the assistance center.

The doctor Nilda Peréz, director of the program of Reproductive Sexual Health gave the material to the doctor Gilberto Suero, director of the sanitary center.

Peréz said that the donation came from the United Nations Population Fund, in colaboration with the representant of the UNFA, Gilca Meléndez, and thait the equipments will help the women to give birth in better conditions.

She added that the authorities wish to transform the Jaime Mota hospital in a model for the Southwestern region.

The director Suero thanked the United Nations Population Fund because this is just what we needed and the material will help to fight maternal deaths.

BREAKING NEWS : BARAHONA.- The provincial authorities, in coordination with the Presidential Commission for the Provincial Development, the regional direction of Agriculture, the Public Works Ministry and the Town Halls, began in the Barahona province a program of repairing of the byroads, under the request of the president Leonel Fernández.

The Governor of the province, Eddy Mateo Vásquez, explained that this program began with the coffe plantations areas in the municipalities of Paraíso, Enriquillo, La Ciénaga, and will be extended to the communities of Vicente Noble, Jaquimeyes, Cabral, Las Salinas, El Peñón, Fundación between others, in order to enable the farmers to deliver their products to the markets without any difficulties.

He declared that heavy equipments worked in these operations as bulldzers, excavators, trucks… He added that this programm was supported by associations of farmers of the communities.

BREAKING NEWS : BARAHONA.-A very nice and colored parade crossed all over the streets of the Palmarito area.

Organized by the Santo Domingo Savio school, located in this sector, the carnival was characterized by the enthusiasm of the students and teachers of the center.

The kids formed groups called: los profesionales, las chichiguas, los militares, caritas pintadas, los conejitos, girasoles, ratoncitos, los indígenas and urbana.

One of the most outstanding group was the los profesionales one, where the children were dressed up as nurses, doctors, and engineers. A couple of kids were dressed up as the president of the Republic and his wife, whereas another one represented the mayor of the municipality.

The principal of the educational center, Colomba Garó, explained that one of the goal of the activity was to familiarize the children with the cultural traditions of the country, as the carnival.
