The Dominican Coffee Council anticipates production of 92 thousand quintals

BREAKING NEWS : Barahona .- Approximately 92 000 quintals of coffee will be harvested next year in the various coffee producing areas in the provinces of Barahona and Pedernales Bahoruco.

Mariano Moreta, General Director of the Dominican Coffee Council (CODOCAFE) informed that each quintal of coffee on the market had a cost exceeding 4300 pesos, which means that an average of 400 million pesos will boost Enriquillo region economy.

He said that under the orders of President Leonel Fernandez, technical guidance and advices are offered concerning the management of production in order to obtain better results are developed.

He also explained that measures to control a disease affecting the Coffee, which produces many casualties, were applied.

According to Mr. Moreta, thanks to these controls, the disease has reached three percent, while last years, the disease had affected ten percent of the plantations.
