The Bishop of Barahona calls for solidarity with Haiti

BREAKING NEWS: Barahona.- The bishop of the Diocese of Barahona, Rafael Leonidas Monsignor Felipe Nunez, said the tragedy of Haiti is an occasion for Catholics, the faithful of other Christian denominations and all Southerners express their solidarity with the pain and suffering of the people Haiti.

Considered that this cooperation needs to be made to support and supply of clothing, food, blankets, mosquito nets, among other things, to mitigate some of the pain felt by citizens of that country, especially in Port au Prince, Jacmel and other locations the southern part of that nation.

Each of us from our poverty and limitation, we can contribute something to help the thousands of Haitians affected by the earthquake that severely punished the brotherly people of Haiti , the Catholic religious, who described the dire situation that across the country.

He said that this is a time for Christians and Southerners let’s put aside any differences that may exist between us and unite to help as we can for the residents of the sister nation, which today are going through an extremely difficult situation.

María Montez airport in BarahonaTo facilitate aid shipments to Haiti

BREAKING NEWS: Barahona.- The Ministry of Public Works and Communications conditioning and rehabilitating the runway and the Taxi-Way International Airport in Barahona María Montez to enable the landing and departure of aircraft to bring humanitarian aid to devastated Haiti.

Engineer Victor Diaz Rúa ordered rehabilitation to facilitate the operation of the terminal.

The work consists of sweeping the road surface, clearing and leveling of the lateral areas and the drainage of surrounding areas.

The rapid intervention teams has allowed Public Works to the immediate operation of all aircraft to land.

Other works that are done are the leveling of the strips and the cleaning of ditches near the road.

These works are part of the first phase of the refurbishment work that runs the airport, which by its geographical location makes international aid come quickly to the neighboring country of Haiti.

In the second stage, SEOPC be responsible for the rehabilitation and paving of the runway, through the contracting company Palmanova, under the supervision of the INITEC, which is the company that oversees all the work of refurbishing airstrips of AERODOM.

The work is executed at night in order not to hamper the work at the airport Maria Montez de Barahona.

This task is a parcel of President Leonel Fernández, to execute all necessary actions to help and assist the fraternal people of Haiti.
