With the help of FranceBREAKING NEWS: Barahona.- The South Regional Directorate of the Police in Barahona, established a Forensic Police Unit, in collaboration with the Government of France. The opening of operations by this department took place at a meeting in the Chamber of Officers at a meeting attended by various officials.
The activity was set in motion by Captain Lopez, who spoke about the training they received during the course.
Other speakers included Lionel Dost, director of the Program of Support for Criminal Investigations, representing the French Embassy, who emphasized the importance of the recently created unit.
For his part, General Efres Rafael Calderon, said that henceforth the ballistic, blood, DNA and other evidence collected at crime scenes will be analyzed in the laboratories of the Barahona institution.
He explained that the era when all of this work was done by the Santo Domingo police laboratory, was over. This is a great step forward for our institution, which is undergoing a modernization process, the judicial system and progress for the southern region of the country
, said a high police official.
Later Calderón Efres and all those in attendance were taken to the local Police Science Unit, which was blessed by the priest, Gabriel Amonte, who also cut the ribbon signifying its official opening.
Among those attending the ceremony were; the French police instructor from the Paris area, Captain Cyrille Monnot, judicial, military, Ministry of Environment officers, noncommissioned officers and enlisted men of the National Police and representatives of several media outlets.
Seated at the main table were; Dr. Bolivar Montero de Oleo, Environmental procurator, Edgardo Cuesta, who represented District Attorney, Pedro Martir Terrero, Jorge Abdala Felix, from the Drug Council and Father Gabriel.
