Entrepreneurs ask for a tourism plan for Barahona

BREAKING NEWS: Barahona.- Eco-tourism Hispaniola Organization (BEHS), and the group of landowners of Barahona asked the Environment Minister, Jaime David Fernández a plan to resume development of the tourist area of Barahona.

Luis Díaz Franjul, president of BEHS, expressed the need for a plan to develop tourism and environment according to the conditions of the area, including the elimination of trees by means of a tourism plan followed by reforestation of the highway Barahona-Pedernales.

It has also requested works on the beaches of Punta iglesista and Saladillo, with funding from the Law 158-01, as developed in the tourism areas for the construction of hotels.

Mr. Luis Díaz Franjul asked to declare of public utility and social interest to the tourist areas in order to support beach restoration plan, and the promotion of the construction of hotels.

BREAKING NEWS: Barahona.- XXI Century Dominican Airports (Aerodom) received awards from the Canadian Forces and the Command of Southern Special Operations, of the United States, for its handling of the collaboration at the Maria Montez International Airport, during the movement of humanitarian aid to neighboring Haiti.

The operations officer of the Canadian Forces, Captain Messina gave a plaque of appreciation to Aerodom represented by Darius Carlos Sousa, manager of Maria Montez International Airport, the airport having served as base of operations for interim relief work for the earthquake in Haiti, on January the 12th.

While the head of Special Operations Command South, Brigadier General of the United States, Hector Pagan, delivered a letter of thanks to the administration of Maria Montez International Airport, for their support in the province of Barahona in the movement of thousands of tons of supplies to save lives in Haiti.

The collaboration of all who make up its team in Maria Montez International Airport has been central to the delivery of thousands of tons of badly needed supplies and in saving thousands of lives affected by the earthquake in Haiti, said Brig.

The commander said Thanks to your interest and unconditional support the international community is more than willing to continue providing humanitarian assistance to those who currently suffer the worst recorded natural phenomenon in our hemisphere.

The administrator of Maria Montez International Airport, while being thankful for the awards, said he would receive them on behalf of the Aerodom staff, which led by its president, Andrew O’Brian, devoted all of its time and effort to supporting relief missions to neighboring Haiti.

The military group cleans the beach Quemaito Barahona

BREAKING NEWS: Barahona.- Continuing with social work, members of the Fifth Army Infantry Brigade based in this city, conducted a beach cleaning of the Quemaito in Juan Esteban.

The work of cleaning this bathing center was led by Brigadier General Abraham Rodríguez Luna and other officers of the army. Prior to this operation similar work was carried out on La Meseta beach, located on the coast of this province, where tons of waste were removed.

About 30 members of the Army worked on this project so that visitors would find the beaches, rivers and beaches clean.

He said the beneficiaries of this work are residents of the towns where the beaches are located, as if they are clean are visited more frequently.

Gen. Luna Rodriguez said that in the coming days, similar work will take place in other coastal beaches of Barahona.
